It’s been a busy year for new features. So far we’ve said hello to:
💤 The Onoco AI powered Optimal Nap Time Predictor
And now we have two more updates to add to the list…
Timers for Custom Logs
We know how useful Custom Logs have become for many of our families. Available with Onoco Premium, they give you the power to add anything you want to your tracking menu. So far, we've seen families tracking everything from tummy time and trips out to bath routines and reading...
And now they have timers! ⌚
Instead of entering activity time manually, you can now choose to track as you would feeding and sleep. All you have to do is select the duration log type when setting up a new Custom Log.
Like with every new feature on Onoco, we recommend starting your journey with Custom Log timers but updating to the latest version of the app, and encouraging anyone connected to your family’s account to do the same.
So, what can I use Custom Logs for?
The short answer is - anything you like!
Custom Logs give you and your family the flexibility to add whatever matters to you.
Some ideas from our Onoco users include:
1. Tummy time
Tummy time is important for a baby's development as it helps strengthen their neck, shoulder, and arm muscles, and improves motor skills. It's generally recommended that tummy time be introduced from as soon as your baby loses their umbilical cord, starting with a few minutes per session, several times a day.
As your baby gets older and stronger, you can gradually increase tummy time. By 3 to 4 months, most babies can handle 15-20 minutes of tummy time per session. By 6 months, they may be able to tolerate 30 minutes or more per session.
However, each baby is different, so it's important to pay attention to your baby's comfort and cues. If they seem tired, fussy, or uncomfortable, you may need to decrease the duration of tummy time and gradually increase it as they get stronger.
By adding tummy time to your logs, you’ll easily be able to see any recurring patterns and how your baby is developing!
2. Reading time
It’s natural that, the more reading our little ones do, the more they will develop as readers! Even before they can pick up a book for themselves, daily reading and stories are a great way to develop the skills of listening and literacy - here’s a look at the literacy area of the EYFS which includes some ideas on early engagement and activities!
Once they’re at reading level, it’s recommended they’re spending 15-20 minutes reading each day in addition to anything within more formal education settings. By tracking this time with Custom Logs, you can add comments such as location or reading type, and see how your child’s reading preferences change over time.
3. Screen time
The World Health Organisation (WHO) says no screen time for those under one year, and the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines agree, with an exception for video calls with family members who may be away.
They then go on to recommend limited educational programming, and with a caregiver present, for 18-24 months; non-educational screen time limited to one hour per weekday and three hours on weekends for those aged 2-5 years; and continued limitation and supervision from six up.
As with much of life, screen time is about balance, and keeping a perspective on the length, quality and combination of screens and information your little one is receiving. By using Custom Logs, you can add notes on the type of screen being used and content being viewed (as well as time spent!) so you have a full picture of your child’s habits.
4. And more!
Other innovative uses that we’ve seen from our Onoco families include keeping on top of bottle sterilisation, tracking time at swimming lessons, monitoring more specific medicine doses, and even parents making sure they’re fitting in their own exercise sessions into their daily routines!
With Custom Logs, you choose the name of your tracker, associated symbol and colour. Once you start tracking with these additional logs, they will show up on your insights and daily summary just like everything else.
Where can I find Custom Logs and timers?
Oh and one more thing…
We've made it even easier to sign up to Onoco thanks to social log-ins. This is one for your friends, family and caregivers so they can easily and quickly join up to your family, or even add their own!
